Dragon Skills Training™ teaches children how to recognize their emotions, understand how "big" those feelings are, and choose coping skills that match what their body needs in that moment.

Through dragons, storytelling, games, movement, and hands-on activities, children discover they are never alone when big feelings show up — they have a whole team of Dragon helpers ready to guide them.

Is Dragon Skills Training Right for My Child?

This program may be a good fit if your child:
✓  Has big emotions that seem difficult to manage

✓  Becomes frustrated, worried, or overwhelmed easily

✓  Has difficulty calming down once upset

✓  Is learning healthy coping skills

✓  Benefits from visual, hands-on learning

✓  Enjoys imaginative play and stories

✓  Would benefit from learning alongside other children
Dragon Skills Training™ helps children understand their emotions — not fear them.
The Core Concept

How Big Is Your Flame?

Children learn to notice how "big" their feeling is and pick the Dragon whose skill best matches that moment.

Meet the Dragon Team

Every Dragon teaches a different emotional regulation skill. Children quickly discover that no single coping strategy works for every situation.

As children meet each Dragon, they build a growing toolbox of skills they can continue using long after the program ends.

Dragon Skills Masters
By the end of the program, children become Dragon Skills Masters — confident in recognizing their emotions and choosing the strategies that work best for them.

Why I Created Dragon Skills Training™

As a therapist, I noticed many children struggling with big feelings.

They weren't choosing to have meltdowns. They weren't trying to be difficult.

Most simply hadn't been taught how emotions work or what to do when those emotions became overwhelming.

Parents often told me they wished they knew how to help, but many found themselves guessing which strategy might work.

Dragon Skills Training® was created to give children and parents a common language for understanding emotions while making emotional regulation fun, memorable, and practical.

What Children Learn

Throughout the program, children learn how to:
  • Recognize different emotions

  • Understand how emotions affect their body

  • Notice how "big" their feelings are becoming

  • Match coping skills to the intensity of the emotion

  • Practice emotional regulation through play and movement

  • Build confidence calming themselves

  • Communicate what they need more effectively

  • Continue using Dragon Skills at home and school

What Makes Dragon Skills Training Different?

Many coping skills programs teach children a list of strategies. Dragon Skills Training™ teaches children how to decide which strategy fits the moment.
1
Notice what their body is experiencing
2
Understand the intensity of the emotion
3
Choose the Dragon whose skill best matches what they need
This process builds confidence, flexibility, and emotional awareness rather than relying on one strategy for every situation.

What Parents Often Notice

Parents frequently tell me they leave with something just as valuable as the children — a shared language.

Instead of guessing what might help during emotional moments, conversations become more collaborative.

Imagine a situation that once ended in tears or frustration. Instead of everyone feeling overwhelmed, you might gently say:
"I can see your flame getting big… who can help?"
And instead of guessing... your child knows exactly which Dragon they need.

Many families find emotional moments become less about power struggles and more about working together.

FAQs

Does my child need a mental health diagnosis?
No. Many children simply benefit from learning emotional regulation skills before emotional difficulties become larger challenges.
Is this therapy?
Dragon Skills Training™ is a psychoeducational skills-building program designed to teach emotional regulation and coping strategies. It is not a substitute for individual psychotherapy when therapy is clinically indicated.
Will parents learn the Dragon Skills too?
Yes. Parents receive information and resources that help reinforce the same language and strategies at home, creating consistency between the program and everyday life.
What if my child is shy?
Children are encouraged to participate at their own pace. Activities are designed to be engaging, playful, and supportive rather than pressuring children to participate before they are comfortable.
